Change
Many California teachers will be faced with one of the most important educational decisions of their lives. They will be asked to choose a new reading language arts program that the students in their districts will use for the next six years. Unfortunately, many districts are considering simply rolling over into the same program that they have been using for the past decade. This is most certainly an unfortunate practice as there have been major and important changes to the California English Language Arts Framework. Pearson has produced exciting, relevent and effective materials for the students and teachers in California.
Now more than ever, change is necessary. We call teachers to look carefully at the options and think deeply about the students in their classrooms. Does your program support the needs of English Learners? Does it excite struggling readers, especially our young boys with relevant and appropriate reading materials? Most importantly, does your program move students from good decoders to comprehending readers? If not, then its time for a CHANGE.
Your thoughts are welcomed.
